ok so i know this was nearly 2 months ago, but i took bela to the chalk festival at the art museum in september. she ended up with more on her than anywhere else, but we both had a blast. afterwards we went to lakeview cemetary to wander a bit and take pictures, that didnt last long though because bela didnt seem to be as into it as me.

so we decided to let bela stay up to the fireworks tonight. she took a nap earlier and was excited to watch. from chris' apt we can see fireworks from like 6 locations. she wasnt really into it but enjoyed doing sparklers with daddy. by ten she was asking to go to bed so she didnt get to see the big downtown ones. i guess we know now that next year we should just skip it.

race weekend in cinci

so jenny, bela and i travelled to cincinnati on friday evening to visit my sister and family. also everyone was participating in some way in the flying pig marathon events. on saturday franka (and heather) ran the mile and holly (and paul), jenny and i did the 5k. bela ran the piglet fun run and didnt fall! on sunday jenny and i stayed home with the kids and heather and paul ran the half marathon. big weekend of running!!

ok so in a shameless effort to catch up, i am posting a facebook-esque survey about bela. i filled this out about myself and the title what 25 random things about me.... lets see if i can make it to 10 about bela.

1. as of april 13th bela is pacifier free
if i had known this was going to be so easy i would have pushed it a long time ago! we were at the store and she was begging me for this barbie doll. i told her no, but when she insisted i decided to try bargaining. i said fine, but on one condition. when we get home no more pacifiers. she agreed. i smirked to myself for being such a sucker and letting her fool me into thinking that this would actually happen. when we got home she set out to collect every paci in the house and put them in a pile on the counter. when i tried to put them away on a high shelf in the cabinet she scolded me, "no mama, in the trash!". that was that. she never mentioned or asked for the pacifier again.

2. bela has a super human sense of smell and taste.

i blame/credit my sister for both of these. at least once i day bela will say "whats it smell like in here?" and at least once a day i will call her crazy sniffer or ask her what she is sniffing. she always smells things before she eats them and can be seen sniffing random things all day long.. most times her hands after touching something

3. bela does not like tomatoes or onions.
no matter what kind of food you put in front of her, she will first ask if it contains onions or tomatoes before eating. if i try to pull a fast one on her, she always knows. once i told her that a piece of onion was celery, she was not fooled.
i love both. brett hates both.

4. bela loves pink.
i hate pink. approximately 80% of the items i received at my baby shower were pink. i returned much of that 80%. somehow my little bela has embraced her love for pink anyhow and i have learned to accept it. it can be pretty much guaranteed that she will have on at least one pink item of clothing every day.

5. bela insists on dressing herself.
she does a pretty good job and even when she doesnt she looks so darn cute anyhow. if for some reason she asks me to pick out her clothes, i usually stick with her fashion ideals and pick something that she would approve of. i also do this when packing for a night away.

6. pink cowboy boots.
my sister gave bela pink cowboy boots that had been handed down (and shunned) to franka. i knew immediately that bela would love them (see #4). she has worn them everyday since receiving them, except for the week that they were at my moms house. that week i just had to hear her complain everyday that she couldnt wear them. i expect this to continue for a long long time since the boots are currently 2 sizes too big.

7. bela has pretty much officially given up napping.
this is both a good and a bad thing. i miss the nap because it gave me some bela-free time in the afternoon and because it meant that i didnt have to deal with the crankiness that a non-nap equals. on the days that she did nap though, the already trying time of bedtime was twenty times worse. so now i deal with cranky kid but bedtime routine is a tad bit easier. not sure which is worse.

8. my three year old is boy crazy.
seriously. loves boys. mostly my guy friends, but also those her own age. it is a regular part of her vocab to say "mama i am crushin on ____" no idea where she got that from. it scares me, but is also kinda sweet. pretty much weekly she will tell me that someone new is her boyfriend. although it has been andy for about a month now.

9. bela recently started saying "mom" in a way that i thought only a teenage girl could pull off. many of you have heard it and she will do it on demand. it makes me laugh out loud but also kind of frightens me as to what is to come in her teen years.

10. bela has a great imagination
this makes me very proud because it seems to me that nowadays many kids do not. she is constantly telling me about things that she is pretending to be or do. i love it.

so for a long time i was getting belas hair cut in a really cute hip style. everyone loved it and we were always getting compliments. now she wants it long and refuses to get a haircut. this leaves my little cutie looking like a mess most days. i have tried to explain to her that having long hair requires extra care, basics like brushing and washing, but she isnt havin it. so most days i have to fight with her to get out the door without giant knots in the back of her head. yesterday i somehow convinced her to let me put her hair up, she was not very happy about it. of course today she is once again halfway to dread locks and wont let near her with a comb... ugh.

lately bela has really been adamant about picking out her own clothes. i am a huge supporter of this because it for sure shows her personality and creativity! she usually picks out some really great outfits with contrasting patterns and colors. i am sure some people give us weird looks when we are in public, but honestly i do not care. i have even gone as far as letting her wear a nightgown as a dress, eh whatever. i would hope that people would realize that she is the one choosing the outfits, not me. even so though, who cares! she looks friggin adorable! today we were at the grocery and she had on a flower headband complete with giant petals that stood 6 inches off her head. she kept telling me that everyone thought she looked so cute.

somehow no one has bugged me lately about not updating so it just got away from me. we have been experiencing some really nice weather the last few days and managed to make it to the park the last two days. i had planned to take the kids hiking today since it is supposed to be 61, but of course it is raining yesterday we went to the park with my friend kari and her daughter. it was rather wet from the melting snow and bela ended up a big dirty wet mess by the end. she even took her boots off because they were soaked..

after long deliberation on belas part, she finally settled on alice in wonderland for her costume. she was such a trooper during trick or treat despite not having a nap that day. she even made her entourage (me, oma, jenny, karen & karon) wait at the bottom of each driveway so she could go to the doors and do her thing by herself! my mom was super cute too dressed as the white rabbit!

i hate commercials! ok i dont hate them, i kinda like some of them, but i hate them when bela is in the room. this is the reason that we usually watch pbs, no commercials! xmas is upon us, so every commercial break is filled with toys. being the nice mama that i am, i recorded alice in wonderland for bela to watch but it has commercials! and of course she wont let me fast forward through them, she wants to see what she is missing out on. so just in this last commercial break i heard "i want a puppy that swims like that!", "i need a party dress wearing bear like that!" and "i need a tink that flies like that!". UGH. she then followed all of those statements with "for my birthday".
you all now how i am with toys, i get it from my sister, no crappy plastic junk! i like learning toys and nice wooden stuff. no swimming puppies or giant hair styling heads of dora!!

brett is still gone and bela and i have been keeping ourselves really busy! I actually had plans over the weekend which was nice so bela was at karen and karons on friday and my moms house on saturday. of course she came home with new princess dress up clothes and books from karen and karon. then oma took her for a haircut and got her nails painted!

last night we had a sleepover with meg and bri and filled some much needed girl time. today bela and i are just hanging out but then fritz is coming over for dinner tonight. tomorrow night i am going to a show! take that cruisin daddy, we have plenty to do!! :)

so last night brett and i are watching tv and his phone rings. its a friend that he used to work with at gc. through some stroke of luck he won an all expense paid cruise to cabo from work. his wife doesnt want to go and he invited brett! so it looks like my husband is leaving on saturday for cabo! totally nuts! i am so excited for him, but so jealous too!! he is gonna have an awesome time. although of course he doesnt drink and is so picky when it comes to food that really i should be the one going! :)

so i will be husbandless for about a week if anyone wants to come hang out at my house with me!! i am gonna be lonely!

on sunday morning we met karyn and emma at the zoo! we had so much fun and i really think bela is finally at the age that she gets it. and to my great amazement she walked the entire time and didnt beg me to carry her! i am sure that was mostly thanks to emma holding her hand. i didnt take many pics, but hopefully karyn will send me some to add. not that you can even really tell where these pics were taken, no animals! oops!

yesterday mom and i took bela to "pigtails and crewcuts" to get her hair cut. this has got to be the coolest kids salon ever! bela now has a new hip haircut. she looks so darn cute and totally thinks she is so cool.

did i fail to mention that i got her ears pierced? thanks daddy for caving on that one. :) its been about 4 weeks already! last week she lost one, no clue how, and so we had to get it re-pierced so she is currently wearing a mismatched pair.

so our new place doesnt have a back yard, but i wanted to get bela a sandbox anyhow. so this small scale one fit just great on the back 'fire escape'! it is just big enough for her to perch on the edge and she thinks its awesome. of course in typical bela fashion she informed me as she began to play that she would for sure need a bath when she was done.

after tomorrow i will officially be a stay at home mom. who would have ever thought? i will be watching four kidlets for the summer and still working on nailing down the plan for the fall. i am so totally excited about this major life change, despite how it had to come about. i just hope we can cut it financially, but that is not something i even want to make my self anxious about right now.

my nieces were in town for a few days and then joined by my sis. always great to see her of course! so needless to say bela and i spent lots of family time over the past week. i will recap our daily events tomorrow maybe. too much to remember right now and i just want to sit down and drink some coffee while bela naps. i want to say though that there is so much fun stuff to do with a toddler in our area!!

our world unraveled

I am too lazy and drained to type a witty blog right now, so here is the mass email that i sent to all of my peeps this morning in regards to our move to california....

So it was just two weeks before our moving date and a major piece of the plan fell through. So what do we do now? We go back to the drawing board, take a step back and figure out how we can make this work and what our options are if it isn't going to. Brett was actually about to leave for California to look for a place when this happened and so that really brought things to a screeching halt. We are going to just take some time and try to pick up the pieces and make this move happen in the very near future on our terms.

The biggest problem with this situation is that as of the end of the month, we will both be jobless and homeless. We were one foot out the door and now unfortunately left in a very awkward situation. So this leaves us with no "temporary" fix, we can't just put this move on hold for a month or so. We need to start over here first which is going to be difficult due to our hearts not being fully in it.

A friend told me "everything happens for a reason, the right time for this move will come, maybe you just need a bit more prep time". Most times when people say that, I kinda roll my eyes and change the subject. In this situation I am holding on to it with what little strength I have left. We had really put all we had into making this work and this stumbling block has really left me feeling failed and defeated.

So you are all stuck with me for another year. We will be moving into a new place in our neighborhood this weekend. I am about to be jobless so if you know of anyone looking for a nanny, send them my way!! A friend has already filled my Thursdays and Fridays through the summer. That was my plan for CA and i figure why not get moving on it now.I am going to enjoy every minute of having my Bela at home with me!

Yes I am pissed and sad and lost and happy and relieved and optimistic all at once. I hate Cleveland, but I love all of you and that makes it all ok. Although the thought of another Cleveland winter does make the hole in the pit of my stomach ache even more.

Send good thoughts our way, I really need it right now.

last night joanna and i went to see nada surf at the beachland. holy awesome show, although i am way too old to be out drinking and standing on a concrete floor until 12:30. this is a picture from last night, i kinda like it though despite my glasses.

wonderful week off

bela and i were on vacation last week due to mama chris being on vacation. wonderful! we used this opportunity to head down to cincinnati on saturday to spend time with heather and the gang. we had such a great time!! every day was very busy filled with kidlet activities, lots of walking, good food, lots of wine and tons of quality sister time. bela had a ball too of course with her cousins and neither of us were ready to leave when thursday rolled around.

on thursday night bela and i had a sleepover with meg and bri! meg had to work on friday so i was watching bri for her for the day with bela. kid time was ok, but neither of the girls had a nap so it was pretty painful. after we got them into bed, megs and i made a yummy dinner, some dirty martinis and watched an awful movie. bela and i both slept in the same room, with belas pack n play very near to the end of my bed. at 1 am i awoke to bela trying to climb into my bed. needless to say i didnt sleep much after than because i am was worried she was gonna roll out. so i was no very happy when she woke up at 5:30 and was ready to the start the day!

on friday night we stayed over at my folks and hung out with the ladies k and jen and mike. then on saturday we went to melissas baby shower, despite having no nap (again) bela was a very good girl!

my mom kept bela on saturday night and took her to karons bday party. i headed home (finally after a week!!) to see brett for our anniversary! brett, chris and i went to patricks for his bday party. lots of fun, interesting people, good food, many drinks and a beautiful night out by the pool.

so all in all a great week off!! although it wasnt really relaxing...

bela and i are in cincinnati for most of the week. mama chris is on vacation so we are too! i should have plenty to write about when we get home. have a great week!

finally a spring day

saturday morning i took bela to the park because it was a nice day!! although today it is raining and i am unsure whether the cook out at bretts family is going to happen. saturday after nap bela and i met my friend karyn and her daughter emma at the theater to see horton hears a who. bela was pretty good through the whole thing, until about the last 10 minutes when she started doing laps around the front three rows. it was her first theater experience though and it might be a little while until her next, i think she is still a bit young to pay attention for that long.

i have officially lost control over belas wardrobe. she insists on picking out her own clothes and on the off chance she lets me dress her, she will put in one thing that throws off the whole outfit. this morning after i dropped her off, as i was walking out the door, i sheepishly added, "she picked out the outfit, not me". i am totally fine with this though, i actually think it is cute as heck. plus i know that if someone sees her in brown pants, a green shirt and silver shoes, they will most likely assume that i had no input. the silver shoes are a big player in her wardrobe these days as well, yes the sacred silver shoes that i searched high and low for. so i am fine with it, love those shoes. even when an outfit that most definitely requires tennis shoes is finished with the silver "party" shoes. bela is for sure a unique and independent spirit, i am all for it.

tub swimming

over the weekend my mom bought bela a new bathing suit. bela picked out a little mermaid one because she is currently obsessed with mermaids. last night on the drive home she kept asking me if she could wear the bathing suit and go swimming. not an option in 50 degree weather. so when she asked if she could swim in the bathtub, i had to give in.

only a week late

here are some pictures from our trip to cinci. we went down for the marathon and bela entered the "piglet fun run". it was so super rainy and we were soaked, but as soon as the races started it turned into a beautiful day. yes, she fell on her face and yes she (and i) were totally heartbroken, but all was forgotten. you will see the picture of bela and franka on the starting line and then franka running like the wind while bela is face first on the grass. poor bela!!
also the smallest tshirt that was available was huge on bela! we had a great time and i really enjoyed all the quality family time. and good sister cookin!! i will hopefully be adding more cinci pics as soon as paul sends them to me.

diego and the rainforest

on saturday bela and i went to see diego live at the palace theater! thanks to brittany for hooking us up with the tickets! bela loved the show, of course, and was so good through the whole thing. she was dancing in the aisle with some other kids and just totally amazed that she was in the same room as diego and dora. the whole experience was just so cool for me since she had such a good time.we were not allowed to take pictures during the show though, which kinda sucked.

on sunday we went to the rainforest at the zoo and i took some cute pictures of bela outside. all around a good weekend.
